Goals for 2016

Hello Everyone, It is hard to believe that another year has come and I am once again setting goals for a new year.  This year I am keeping them few and simple. For those of you who have been around for a while,  you may remember that I am not a fan of resolutions (you can read more about that HERE). So in place of resolutions, here are my goals for 2016….

Fitness

  1. Be consistent on my meal plan
  2. Hit new PR’s in all of the major lifts
  3. Get back in to spinning
  4. Finally become certified as a personal trainer
  5. Blog more

 

Personal

  1. Find a new job that I love as much as the one I have (we are moving to another state)
  2. Work on being happier with the progress I am making
  3.  De-clutter my life of both possessions and things that are holding me back
  4. Concentrate on making my kids more active.
  5. Be more organized

 

I know it may sound silly, but with all the changed going on in my life right now, these are about all of the goals I can handle.  I would love to hear about some of your goals for the year.  Leave them in the comments below!!!

 

 

 

The bulk of it, Why I am bulking!

When I first tell people I am bulking now, I get some really weird looks.  That is completely understandable, because most people do not realize what I mean when I say I am bulking.  Most would assume that it is something like this…bulking

In reality, this is so far away from what I will actually be doing. What I am doing is commonly referred to as a clean bulk and looks more like this…

Yes, that is right, I will be eating the same foods that I always eat.  The only thing that will change is the food quantity.  So with this concepts comes a whole slew of questions that people have.  I hope to answer a few of them in this blog, if you are left with questions after that, just post them in the comments below and I will answer them.

What is the reason for bulking?

The main reason, is that I want to be strong and I want to gain muscle.  Before you get all bent out of shape, no my goal is not to compete in a bodybuilding show (as of now) nor do i think that I will look like the awesome Dana Linn Bailey (could I be that lucky?) , but I do want to have muscle, look toned (I know there is no such thing) and fit.  When you are trying to lose weight is is nearly impossible to gain muscle,  your body just doesn’t work that way.  So in an attempt to pick up a little bit more muscle, I am bulking.

What benefits do you see from bulking?

Well besides the obvious benefit of looking better after I come back down from a bulk, I also think my body needs a rest.   For the last 4 years I have been hitting it super hard in the gym, working toward leaning out, and have made amazing progress.  As time goes on, it gets harder and harder to see results, and maintain progress. While I am bulking, I am also cutting back on cardio.   My body just needs a re-set.

Are you going to be eating what you want, whenever you want?

Definitely not,  I will still follow a strict meal plan, and will still be eating a clean diet.  Just to put this into perspective, my current meal plan includes jasmine rice, peanut butter, chicken breast, extra lean ground beef, egg whites, green beans, cream of rice, and ezekial bread.  Yep that is it.  I will however be having one cheat meal a week.

What would you recommend for someone who is wanting to bulk?

Make sure you have a plan.  This isn’t just about adding a ton more calories,  there is a systematic way of doing it.  While you will gain some fat while bulking, the goal isn’t to get fat, it is to gain muscle.  So your calorie intake really has to be on point.

After the bulk, then what?

After the bulk, I will be leaning back out, hopefully looking better and feeling better.

Because there is so much more to transformation than what we may see on #TransformationTuesday

I, as well as many of you all out there, never get tired of seeing an awesome transformation.  I can look at the shows like Biggest Loser and Extreme Weight Loss and I am so blown away by the transformations that these people are making. Lets be serious, it appears that they are completely changing their lives.  and they are in the moment. But in the end are they really changing anything?

When I first lost weight I thought I had accomplished some major feat. I had completely transformed my exterior.  I had dropped the pounds,  felt better, and I looked better.  I had struggled, but in the end I actually did it and wow what a transformation!! I mean look at me. When you make the comparison the difference is amazing!!

Many people look at this comparison and they at so impressed with the work I put in, but that is only because they don’t know the full story.  Some may not agree with me, but for me losing weight was the easy part.   It was shortly after I reached my goal weight that I realized, my transformation wasnt complete and the battle had just begun.   Weight will come off pretty quickly if you have quiet a bit to lose and are willing to work for it, so for me it was only a relatively short time to lose the weight. For that short time I was able to control my appetite and bad habits and make that transformation happen. When I made it to my goal weight, I found it harder and harder to resist the temptations. One bite wouldn’t hurt right?   It was then when I realized that even though I had transformed on the outside, the inside hasn’t changed at all. I still had no self control when it came to controlling my eating.  I still didn’t see what I was really doing wrong and I still didn’t like myself.  That was one of the reasons that I decided to take control of my life and build the life and body I wanted.  Now that I have been at it for 4+ years I know that the real amazing transformation is the one that comes over time. Transforming your thoughts and actions to maintain your progress. While the above transformation may be impressive, the true proof of my hard work is this one…

Almost anyone can transform their life for a short period of time and demonstrate  transformation, but the true test is when they continue on.  Pushing on through all obstacles.No matter what life throws at them, or how rough things to get,  the ones that come out on top are the truly impressive transformations.

I’M BACK!!!

Hey Everyone!!! After taking a few months off because being a teacher, mom, Facebook page owner, online health and wellness coach, and a blogger got too much, I AM BACK!!!  I am so excited to start blogging again, and I have some great things to share with you all.  But for now I will just leave you with this…..
